All ELIOTEKNOLOGY tanks benefit from passivated welds, produced on our own manufacturing lines.

Principle

Welding alters the metallurgical structure and destroys the natural passive layer (generally chromium oxide, Cr₂O₃, for stainless steel) that protects the stainless steel from corrosion.

Passivation rebuilds this layer by removing contaminants (iron oxides, free iron particles, welding residues) and promoting the formation of a uniform protective film that prevents corrosion of the stainless steel.

Objectives

  • Improve resistance to corrosion (particularly pitting or intergranular corrosion).
  • Eliminate impurities (free iron, oxides, welding flux residues).
  • Restore the anti-corrosion properties of the alloy (e.g., 304/316 stainless steel).
  • Prepare the surface for subsequent treatments (painting, coating)

Without passivation, a weld on stainless steel tends to rust locally.
